About
Outer Music Diary is a collaborative and interactive blog/diary where we write about what we have been listening to. It’s a transgenre musical list that tends to cover as wide a spectrum of music as exists and generally speaking we tend to avoid the issues of inclusivity/exclusivity that tend to belabor other forums that deal with underground, progressive, psychedelic and unusual musical styles.
Outer Music Diary is also something of an offshoot of the Gnosis Project and the primary writers are Mike McLatchey (MM) and Tom Hayes (TH), both cocreators of that site (link can be accessed on the right) . In many ways the writing here ties into Gnosis ratings by using these as something of a shorthand to communicate relative quality to each other, and in that sense builds upon Gnosis in that reviewing in real time also demonstrates how Gnosis members both evaluate new albums and reevaluate what they’ve revisited. In that way we hope to demonstrate the system’s usefulness beyond its mere applicability as a rating system. The key to the 15 point system can be found at the Gnosis site by accessing the ratings guide from http://gnosis2000.net/quickguide.shtml
We are and have been joined by other Gnosis members on occasion, including Expose editor Peter Thelen (PT) and Cesar Montesano (CAM). We’d also like to mention one retired Outer Music writer, James Beaudreau (JB), who we feel was instrumental in the forward momentum of this idea. James has gone onto a musical career – more information can be found in a link to the right. We’d also like to thank Mike Borella of Avant Music News for hosting this blog.
If you’re interested in being a writer or contributor to this blog, if you have promo requests or have any questions, please contact Mike at mike @ gnosis2000.net or Tom at tom @ gnosis2000.net. (remove spaces)
We moderate comments for the single reason to prevent spam, so if you’re interested in joining in the discussion, please do so, we’ll be along soon to send it forward.
NOTE: Outer Music Diary will not provide copies of the music we write about here, nor will we respond to individual requests to help find something out of print or rare. Please check e-bay or torrent trackers that cooperate with trade friendly artists for these items and support your independent music dealers for anything else. We also will not include or accept links to download sites as we don’t wish to make the Outer Music Diary a part of this debate.
